This 60-acre ranch is situated at the base of Mt. St. Helena, at the headwaters of the Napa River. Rocky soils and lack of water stress the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot plantings, producing low yields and intense blackberry jam characteristics. The surrounding hills create a small canyon that is full of bay laurel and wildlife, including grape loving bears (sometimes influencing vineyard operations and harvest sampling). Thermal inversions typical to the area allow extra hang time to our nine different Cabernet clonal selections and two Petit Verdot clonal selections. Since the 1970s, this ranch has had a history of producing amazing Bordeaux varietals for Markham Vineyards and continues to impress.
