Dave Flanary is a native Californian who grew up in the Sacramento Valley. Dave spent his youth working various farming jobs – from peaches to tomatoes to walnuts. Those jobs made him appreciate the land and and value the process of growing good food (now wine) for people to enjoy. He left the farming world and graduated from California State University, Chico, with a degree in business administration.

Prior to joining Markham Vineyards in 1992 as Controller, Dave was Senior Manager at Deloitte in Santa Rosa, specializing in wine and beverages. His precise nature makes him perfect for his job. As another long-serving employee at Markham Vineyards, not much escapes his critical eye and attention for detail which totally fits the Markham ideal! After working as Chief Financial Officer, then General Manger of the winery for many years, Dave was named President in 2016.

However, if he had the opportunity to do it all over again, you might find him racing his bicycle anywhere in the world. He still likes to ride when he can – we suspect that his garage is stuffed to the rafters with more bicycles than one man could really use – but all of that exercise allows him to indulge in the great food on offer in and around wine country. “I like to eat,” says Dave, “and this is a great place for that.” He’s also a bit of a self-confessed car geek; you’ve probably seen him sporting his Mini Cooper around the valley.
